How the rule works
Under Employment Standards Act, s. 18–19, Christmas Day is a paid statutory holiday in New Brunswick. Stat pay is calculated as: A regular day's pay at the employee's normal rate. In practice this produces roughly one regular day of wages for most employees, though the mechanical formula differs from a straight "day's pay" in ways that matter for irregular schedules, commission earners, and part-time employees.
If the employee works on Christmas Day: Employees who work the holiday are paid a regular day's pay PLUS 1.5× their regular rate for hours worked. Or the employer can grant a substitute day off at regular pay.
